Yoga Apparel: A Closer Look at What to
Wear
Above everything else, yoga apparel should be comfortable. It's
tough to work out and maintain a pose for any length of time if
you're uncomfortable in your clothing. To answer this need,
most yoga apparel dealers offer a variety of styles for their
customers, as well as apparel in a number of different
materials.
If you're looking to use your clothing as a trigger for setting
the workout mood, then buying a specific set or two of yoga
apparel can be just what you're looking for. Even if you're
planning on working out in whatever comfortable clothing you
have on hand, there're still a few things you should look for
before running off and starting that yoga routine.
Constriction
Never allow your yoga apparel to be so tight that you can't
move or breathe. The ability to stretch and inhale deeply is a
fundamental part of yoga, so your clothing should accommodate
you fully. Conversely, you don't want your clothing so loose
that it gets in your way when moving either. Little is more
annoying than trying to do a headstand, or other inverted pose,
and having your top fall up into your face!
Material
What your yoga apparel is made out of can be a big factor in
its comfort as well. Some people prefer spandex or lycra as a
main ingredient in their clothing. Others prefer a fabric that
breathes, so it is typically recommended that yoga apparel be
mostly, if not completely, made out of cotton. A good set of
cotton pants and top will not only allow your skin to breath
properly during an intense workout (and yes, yoga can get
intense), but this yoga apparel will also do a fine job of
absorbing any perspiration away from the skin it covers,
allowing less chance for slipping while holding a pose.
Style
For many people style is a very big consideration when choosing
their yoga apparel. From the cut of the cloth to the colors and
designs, the gear you work out in can say a lot about your
personality, and while going to a yoga class shouldn't be about
meeting people, most people can't help but feel the desire to
express themselves by appearance at least a little. A common
look among yogis is a form fitting tank top matched with a
looser pair of pants to allow maximum flexibility. Whatever
style and color of yoga apparel you choose be sure that it
allows for ample flexibility and comfort.
